LEGENDARY PERSPECTIVES

“So be very careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honorably with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for his purposes.”—Ephesians 5:15-16

Situations and circumstances allow us to pause for a moment to place things in their proper perspective.  In the recent tragedy of a legend Kobe Bryant and with many other losses and challenges in life, it reminds you that your days on earth are numbered.  We don’t know the day nor the hour, so God encourages us to live intentionally and on purpose every day.  The great legend said it best, “As you get older, you find beauty in the process. You find beauty in the stretching, the ice packs.  You start seeing it from a 360 perspective and you try to find the beauty in that, which is completely different from being 21.” While the reflection was that of an athlete it applies to us all.  I find that statement undeniably motivating as I am currently in that stage of my life where I’m truly understanding that the process matters and it’s necessary. Every single thing I experience in my life matters, no matter how big or small. I recently had a conversation with a friend, and we were both saying how fast time flies and how we were just in college “living our best life.”

Life’s meaning tends to take shape as you grow and mature.  I’m reaching the point where I’m standing on the fact that I don’t have the time to focus on things that don’t really matter or add to my life—you know the whole “majoring in the minors.” I’m learning to see things in their true meaning.  I am starting to see what is important in my life presently, not what I had in the past, not what mistakes I’ve made in the past, not being fixed on what I hope my life is going to look like in the future, not past hurts, brokenness or defeat.  It’s time I appreciate what God has given me in this season of my life and holding it near and dear to me. Your day is truly shaped by the daily blessings that are given to you.  It pays so much more to focus on the health, wealth, and overall good of your day(s) then focusing on the bad because usually the good far outweighs- with the proper perspective, a God perspective.

Let’s be charged and challenged to live life more on purpose and with intention.  We have spheres of influence in our marriages, in our relationships, on our jobs, in our churches, in the grocery store, in our families, in sports, etc. These different domains depend on us to cherish what we’ve been given in order to live out a life that inspires change and motivation for one to even raise the question, “how did you get to where you are?” As we remember legends in history, we remember the lasting impressions and the impact they’ve had on people.  We don’t have to be famous to be legendary, we just need to be obedient.

I believe my life on earth is temporary, and I don’t have long to do what God has called me to do and that’s to let his light shine so bright in me that you will wonder where it even comes from. I only have 24 hours in a day to build upon my legacy. A legacy that speaks of living life to the absolute fullest.  A life that strives to do my absolute best in everything that I commit to.  Living life with courage, vulnerability, and integrity. Being loyal and confident. Loving deeply and unapologetically.  Cherishing and holding dear to my relationships.

Friends–this is your year to find the beauty in the transition, the beauty in the mess, the beauty in growth, the beauty in what doesn’t make sense, the beauty in not knowing what’s next, the beauty in your journey. Take advantage of your days and live like it’s truly your last.
