A piece of advice we received in premarital counseling was never stop dating in marriage. Kareem and I dated for years before we got married and we have committed ourselves to continue dating. It comes pretty natural for us. Maybe it’s because we don’t have any kids right now and that’s been nice because we have been enjoying getting to know one another in marriage.

We like to set aside Friday nights as nights where we intentionally spend time with one another doing whatever we decide but free from distraction. Since it’s Friday we eat out for dinner. We also enjoy watching a good movie or binge watching a tv show, snuggled on the couch and having a glass or two of wine. Kareem’s go to usually involves live music or something related to the arts.

Date nights communicate that we prioritize one another. The weeks can get long and the days can get busy. It’s important we get a chance to catch up, talk, and just connect. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, we’re just in good company with one another.

You have to keep it spicy and enjoyable. Marriage can easily be taken for granted. I love getting dressed and dolled up for my man. I’m his wife and girlfriend too. High five babe, we have done a pretty good job of keeping that at the forefront of our marriage.

Peace and Blessings!
